A library way to get away

For a solid three years, COVID-19 draped itself across humanity like a weighted blanket. When it wasn’t swaddling people in illness, it was feeding on serotonin and inducing anxiety, making everyone loath to go anywhere—assuming they weren’t already under quarantine.

Early last year, Kevin Garewal, the vice provost and Andrew H. and Janet Dayton Neilly Dean of the University of Rochester Libraries, looked at the student employee experience across the River Campus Libraries (RCL) and thought, “We can do better.” He wanted to give students an opportunity that would add value to their work and education.

Trustee commits $2 million to River Campus Libraries

For more than a decade now, University of Rochester Trustee Evans Lam ʼ83, ʼ84S (MBA), the managing director of wealth management and senior portfolio manager at UBS Financial Services, has been an enthusiastic leader and committed volunteer at Rochester. His vision and support have manifested scholarships; a professorship; broad-spectrum funding that has initiated projects, bolstered services, and ensured the availability of resources; and now, a transformational gift.
