Haudenosaunee Grammy Award-winning artist and activist Joanne Shenandoah of the Wolf Clan of Oneida Nation, has first-hand knowledge of the violence women and children incur around the world. Through her workshops and music, she has helped them heal.
The University of Rochester Libraries made its first official friends in 1972. They were a group of people who shared a keen interest in strengthening Rochester’s resources for research and learning through the libraries. Together they created Friends of the University of Rochester Libraries (FURL).
Rochester prides itself on being a university that is never content with “good enough.” But “ever better” doesn’t just happen. It takes people who crave progress and are passionate about innovation, people who are always learning, exploring, creating, and tinkering. This is the essence of a makerspace.
A makerspace is any room, lab, or workspace that provides tools and tech that allow individuals to have hands-on learning and skill-building experience. They’re veritable breeding grounds for Meliora.
In 1765, American colonists were done with being told to pay taxes without having seats in Parliament. They said, “Enough with the taxes already! No taxation without representation!” Or something to that effect.
You would be hard-pressed to find a Rochester student who feels that colonial-level outrage—or exclusion—regarding River Campus Libraries (RCL) policies, projects, or resources. The reason is simple: they do have representation.
