Snow with a Smile

It’s not easy living in an area that’s famous for its weather. You say you’re from or you currently live in western New York state, and usually the first thing non-locals think of is, well, snow. Being a congresswoman from this area, Louis Slaughter had to deal with a whole lot of snow, and hail, and sleet. Like most things Louise did, she faced the weather with a smile.

Coming 2021: ExhiBits

Exhibitions are among the many ways the University of Rochester Libraries provides windows into its extensive range of world-renowned collections. But they’re not just displays. An exhibition tells a story that is meant to enlighten, entertain, and engage, and in this way, they are also doors to further and more in-depth exploration. What a year. We were barely into 2020 when the University’s River Campus closed, and when it reopened, it was under uncomfortable, challenging, and mentally exhausting conditions. Data granted, Part II

Got data? For some Rochester students doing research, this playful homage to the 90s ad campaign for milk is a stinging reminder that they do not have data, and their research is stuck in the proverbial mud. In some of these cases, the River Campus Libraries is able to throw students a rope in the form of a data grant.

Data Granted

Last year, River Campus Libraries (RCL) economics librarian Kathy Wu had to say, “No” to an undergraduate student. The student went to Wu needing to purchase data for her senior thesis research. It was reasonably inexpensive, but Wu had to deny the request. The reason: it would only be licensed to the student.
